The Echo Nest Teams Up with Vevo to Personalize the Music Video Experience [VIDEOS]March 09, 2012

The Echo Nest, the Somerville based music intelligence platform has partnered with Vevo to personalize the experience of watching music videos according to a press release. A good music video can add more personality to the songs we already hold so dearly. Whether its through seeing the actual artists mime the song on camera or seeing a creative narrative inspired by the music, music videos offer a unique visual perspective to a totally audible experience. The problem, however, is that so much music and so many videos, well, suck. They suck a lot.
Through this partnership, music fans will be able create video playlists and only hear the music and see the videos that mesh well with their personal taste.
According to the press release:
The integration of The Echo Nest’s music data platform into VEVO allows fans to create personalized music video playlists from VEVO’s massive premium catalog of more than 45,000 videos.
“We are excited to work with VEVO, the ultimate online music video platform,” said Jim Lucchese, CEO of The Echo Nest. “VEVO’s innovative application of The Echo Nest’s in-depth understanding of music fans and music content will give music fans the most personalized, intuitive, and engaging music video experience available anywhere.”
The personalization of it is great, but what still impresses me about The Echo Nest is the whole “intuitive” part. Music fans are constantly looking for new artists. Finding them can be a real “needle in the hay” like task. The hay, of course, being music that sucks and the needle being music that doesn’t.
The release adds:
Fans can further customize the experience by scanning their audio music collection using a simple web link. The result: a “lean-back,” thematic music video platform based on the fan’s overall musical preferences.
This partnership comes a little less than a month after the Echo Nest announced they were teaming up with LyricFind to help bring accurate lyrics music apps that use the Echo Nest platform.
And now, to celebrate the end of the week, here is the video for “Buddy Holly” by Weezer. This is probably my all-time favorite music video.
