SpiderCloud Wireless: Breakthrough Wireless Platform Solves Mobile Operators' Network Capacity and In-Building Coverage Problems
November 02, 2009-SpiderCloud Wireless Inc.’s Enterprise Radio Access Network (E-RAN) gives mobile operators a structured, inexpensive platform for extending and supplementing their networks in coveted enterprise accounts-
November 2, 2009, Santa Clara, Calif. – SpiderCloud Wireless, Inc. today unveiled a breakthrough wireless platform which will solve the immediate indoor capacity and coverage problems for mobile network operators and their enterprise customers. For the first time, operators will be able to deploy and manage customized 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi networks on one wireless platform. The system, known as an Enterprise Radio Access Network (E-RAN), will provide a quantum leap in performance and cost reductions as compared to existing wireless solutions.
“We are extremely excited by the E-RAN technology that SpiderCloud has developed to help reduce operators’ Capex and Opex,” said Carl Showalter, general partner at Opus Capital. “By deploying the network directly within the enterprise, operators benefit from increased capacity while dramatically improving the subscriber experience.”
The E-RAN platform is a scalable system comprised of a SmartCloud™ Services Node (SCSN) and Radio Nodes (SCRN). Advanced features bring ‘zero touch’ installation and low-cost routing options for voice and data to the world of mobile radio access networks. The result is a purpose-built and self-organizing wireless network capable of extending the enterprise’s full suite of voice and data applications and services to any standard handset or computing device. E-RAN brings together the functionality and security of cellular networks with the utility and economics of enterprise data networks.
“SpiderCloud’s approach creates a new tool for the mobile network operator to profitably deploy capacity exactly where it’s required,” said Shirish Sathaye, general partner at Matrix Partners. “This represents a new phase in the way mobile networks will be built going forward.”
SpiderCloud Wireless, Inc. is comprised of repeat entrepreneurs and executives with proven success from companies such as Cisco Systems, Flarion Technologies, Juniper Networks and Qualcomm. The company’s vision is to deliver a technology platform that redefines the architecture, economics and performance of wireless networks.
“This team is unique in that it brings together radio frequency, IP networking and mobile systems engineering skills led by a go-to-market organization that has had proven success in the operator and enterprise markets,” said Bruce Sachs, general partner at Charles River Ventures.
The company has raised in excess of $35 million to commercialize its E-RAN system for mobile operators. System testing is commencing with European mobile network operators this month with general availability of the technology platform scheduled for 2010.
“We have assembled a world-class team to address one of the most pressing issues in wireless today,” said Michael Gallagher, CEO of SpiderCloud Wireless. “I am grateful to have our vision validated by top-tier venture capitalists and network operators alike.”
