Telcel Hangs Up on Traditional Technology in Favor of Netezza Appliance
Marlborough, MA — June 9, 2009 — Netezza Corporation (NYSE: NZ), the global leader in data warehouse and analytic appliances, today announced that Telcel, the largest mobile phone carrier in Mexico, has chosen the Netezza Performance Server® (NPS®) to analyze vast amounts of data for improving revenue assurance. Chosen for its speed, simplicity and reliability the NPS enables Telcel to execute complex analytics on daily updated information, saving Telcel money and ensuring the best service for its 50 million customers.
Telcel chose Netezza to replace an existing system after considering options from Teradata, HP and other vendors. Working with partner Appliance Technologies México on the evaluation and implementation, Telcel found that Netezza’s NPS was simpler, easier to use and more reliable according to tests conducted against other systems. Telcel was also able to deploy the Netezza appliance in less than two days.
“Companies around the world are realizing that Netezza’s appliance is the most efficient away to quickly analyze large amounts of data at a much lower cost,” said Joe Napoli, director, International Distribution, Netezza. “We’re pleased to welcome Telcel to our growing portfolio of international customers.”
Earlier this year, Netezza announced the opening of new sales and operations offices in Germany, France, Ireland, Italy and Korea, highlighting the international growth being driven by the success of Netezza’s appliance. In the fiscal year ended January 31, 2009, international sales accounted for approximately a quarter of Netezza’s revenue compared to 20 percent for the fiscal year ended January 31, 2008.
