Also, check out our interview with Kimora and what she told us about the “must have” item for stay-at-home moms and what her make-up and fashion policy is for her kids.
BABBLE: We recently saw you over the holidays in St. Barth’s with your family in paparazzi pics and let me say – YOU LOOK GREAT! What is your secret to having such a great body after kids? Is there a certain food group you avoid, etc? Or are you just at the gym all the time?
KIMORA: FIRST OFF, THANKS FOR THE COMPLIMENT. I’M A MOTHER OF 3 AND MY YOUNGEST WILL BE 3 SOON – SO I’M ACTIVE! WHAT’S IMPORTANT TO ME IS PEOPLE KNOW I’M NOT ONE OF THOSE ‘BIKINI BABES’ YOU SEE ON MAGAZINES IN THE CHECKOUT LINE. I’M A REAL WOMAN WITH A REAL BODY THAT I APPRECIATE BECAUSE IT ALLOWS ME TO BE A MOM TO 3 AMAZING KIDS AND WORK AND LOVE AND, YES, EAT. BUT ALSO STAY ACTIVE AND ENJOY LIFE. I’M THANKFUL FOR MY BODY REGARDLESS OF WHAT IT CAN OR CAN’T FIT INTO.
BABBLE: What is your “must have” item for stay-at-home-moms that really don’t get the opportunity to dress up (or even brush their hair!) like moms who go to work in an office? Do you have any simple glam-for-day tips?
KIMORA: A CHIC DRESS WILL TAKE YOU FURTHER THAN YOU’D EVER DREAMED. CREATE A DAY-TO-NIGHT ILLUSION BY SWITCHING UP ACCESSORIES – SHOES AND BAGS. MY COMPANY JUST FABULOUS OFFERS THE LATEST IN CONTEMPORARY ACCESSORIES AT A CHIC PRICE. GLAM-FOR-DAY TO ME MEANS UNEXPECTED – A TOUCH OF THE FEMININE OR WHIMSICAL. SOMETIMES ALL YOU NEED IS ONE CHIC ACCESSORY TO KNOCK IT OUT OF THE PARK!
BABBLE: As a parent, when do you think it is “too young” to have young girls wearing make-up? Are you one of those moms who plans on making her daughters wait until they are teens or is it ok for them to experiment as pre-teens or even younger?
KIMORA: WELL WHAT’S GREAT IS WE’RE FANS OF THE NATURAL LOOK IN OUR HOUSE. I’M NOT SURE THE GIRLS ARE INTO REALLY DRAMATIC OR EDITORIAL LOOKS – FOR NOW, ANYWAY. AND A LOT OF THEIR BEAUTY ICONS AND WOMEN THEY LOOK TO HAVE MORE CLEAN APPROACHES TO COLOR. BUT DEFINITELY NO COLOR UNTIL THEY’RE IN THEIR TEENS. NON NEGOTIABLE. A LITTLE LIP GLOSS EARLIER MAYBE. MAYBE.
BABBLE: Do you see yourself as a strict/conservative parent when it comes to having your daughters pick out their clothes? Or do you allow them to experiment with their outfits and different fashions?
KIMORA: IT’S HUMBLING TO WATCH THE GIRLS EXPRESS THEMSELVES VIA THEIR UNIQUE SENSE OF FASHION. THEY HAVE THEIR OWN POINTS OF VIEW. MING LEE LOVES TO SKETCH AND SEW CLOTHES. SHE’S ALSO INTO PHOTOGRAPHY THEN AOKI LEE MODELS THEM. SO YOU SEE WE HAVE OUR OWN IN-HOUSE ATELIER. THEY CAN PICK THEIR OUTFITS; THEY’RE EXCELLENT AT IT. WE LIKE THE CLASSICS, SO…
BABBLE: In your opinion, what’s the worse fashion offense that moms make: wearing leggings as pants or being seen in public with crocs?
KIMORA: I’VE BEEN A FASHION PROFESSIONAL SINCE I WAS TWELVE. THAT’S CERTAINLY LONG ENOUGH TO KNOW YOU NEVER RULE ANYTHING OUT. KENZO AND I WERE AT THE FARMER’S MARKET A FEW WEEKS AGO AND I SAW A VERY CHIC YOUNG MOM IN CROCS. AND THEN ANOTHER ONE AT THE PARK. THE ONLY ITEMS YOU WANT TO AVOID ARE THOSE THAT HOLD YOU BACK FROM YOUR BEST PERSONAL STYLE. IF SOMETHING’S HOLDING YOUR BEAUTY AND CONFIDENCE BACK, THAT’S THE “DON’T” ITEM.
