Crossbeam Systems today expanded the range of platforms it offers to consolidate security appliances with the unveiling of four additions that allow the company’s lineup to span from 5 Gbps to 150 Gbps.
According to Crossbeam chief marketing officer Jim Freeze, the extensions to the X-Series lineup is meant to allow IT organizations to deploy the Crossbeam security platforms in a more distributed architecture to better meet the performance requirements of specific applications.
The X-Series platforms are designed to give IT organizations a high-speed platform for consolidating security appliances on an architecture specifically designed to run a variety of third-party security software, said Freeze. As an alternative, IT organizations have been consolidating security appliances on a variety of network infrastructure platforms. But running security software on those platforms adversely affects the performance of the network, said Freeze. By deploying a platform specifically designed to run security software, the X-Series allows IT organizations to consolidate security appliances without affecting overall application performance.
According to Freeze, the X-Series typically allows IT organizations to consolidate as many as 50 security appliances onto one X-Series platform, although Freeze said some customers have consolidated as many as 200 appliances on one Crossbeam platform.
The new X-Series offering also feature enhanced integrating with HP OpenView Network Node Manager software.
