Crossbeam Announces General Availability of Its Latest X-Series Platforms
Introduction of New Blades and X50 Platform Provides Unprecedented Security Application Choice, Performance and Scalability for Enterprises and Service ProvidersNovember 28, 2011
Press Release
Crossbeam Systems today announced the general availability of its enhanced family of X-Series security platforms, including new sixth-generation network processing blades, a major upgrade to its X-Series Operating System (XOS 9.6), and the X50 platform, the latest addition to its suite of products.
“IT efforts to reduce costs, combined with the need to meet growing business demands have created a tough environment for deploying stringent, scalable security,” said Jim Freeze, chief marketing officer and vice president of business development at Crossbeam. “The improvements we’ve made to the X-Series family have been designed to integrate strong security, superior network performance, and simplified management and make them easy to implement in order to help customers efficiently and effectively address new and emerging threats.”
Crossbeam’s X-Series is the only family of security platforms that enables customers to deploy multiple best-of-breed security applications on a single high-performance chassis. The X-Series empowers customers to virtualize and consolidate hundreds of security appliances and related network devices, while providing the scalability, flexibility and built-in redundancy needed to reliably secure traffic as new threats emerge and network demands change. These capabilities slash total cost of ownership by as much as 70 percent when compared to competitive approaches in the market today.
The X-Series security platforms now include the following:
—Sixth-generation network processing blades and operating system upgrade—These provide key enhancements to support the security performance requirements of mobile operators, including quadrupling the consolidation benefits—already a hallmark of the X-Series—allowing customers to consolidate an average of 100 security devices and related networking hardware onto a single chassis. The new blades also deliver increased performance and scalability to help mobile operators secure up to 100 million concurrent IP connections, 640 Gbps of full duplex network connectivity and 140 Gbps of real-world IMIX performance—all important criteria for security performance to ensure fast and secure mobile communications. Other benefits include expanding the port-density of a fully-loaded X-Series by eight times to provide 64 10 Gbps ports, more centralized management and greater visibility into data traffic flows. All of these capabilities ease the burden that mobile operators face in planning for and delivering intelligent, scalable and high performing security architectures.
—The X50 platform—The introduction of the X50 to the X-Series family addresses a growing need for high-performance security within mid-size data centers and branch offices. It also enables larger IT organizations with multiple X-Series deployments to easily expand their security infrastructure across the enterprise, while maintaining centralized control over security policy and management. With the introduction of the X50, Crossbeam addresses the full range of environments that demand high-performance security—from mid-sized enterprises looking to protect their virtualized infrastructure to service providers securing communications for millions of subscribers.
Customers running any best-in-class security application on Crossbeam can expect to see unprecedented real-world performance using the latest modules. The latest Check Point Security Gateway R75.20 will be able to inspect up to 140 Gbps of IMIX traffic with the firewall blade enabled.
“Crossbeam has always been a strategic partner to Check Point, having worked with us over the past decade to address the security requirements of customers in large enterprise and service provider markets,” said Juliette Sultan, vice president of global marketing at Check Point Software Technologies. “The upgrades that Crossbeam has made to the X-Series continue to demonstrate their understanding of what it takes to successfully deploy high-performance security in the world’s most demanding networks. We expect their latest product innovations will further expand market opportunities for the combined Crossbeam-Check Point solution.”
Crossbeam’s list of industry-leading security partners that have security applications certified to run on the X-Series platform include McAfee, Check Point, Actiance, Sophos, Sourcefire and Imperva.
The X-Series offerings, including the X50 and the sixth-generation network processing blades and XOS 9.6, are immediately available for customer purchase.
