Airvana Named a Finalist at 2011 Femto Forum Femtocell Industry AwardsAirvana CDMA Femtocell Shortlisted in 'Residential Femtocell Access Point Design and Technology Innovation' Category
June 07, 2011
Airvana LLC, the 3G CDMA femtocell company, has been named a finalist in the ‘Residential Femtocell Access Point Design and Technology Innovation’ award category of the 2011 Femto Forum Femtocell Industry Awards. The winner of the award will be announced at a gala awards dinner on June 22, 2011 at Femtocells World Summit in London.
Airvana’s femtocell is the world’s first and only IMS-based dual-mode femtocell. As a dual-mode femtocell, it supports both CDMA2000 1xRTT and CDMA2000 1xEV-DO, thereby covering practically 100% of a CDMA operator’s subscribers. By routing all 1xRTT voice calls through the IMS core rather than legacy MSCs, it reduces the cost of offering unlimited voice plans and enables VoIP services. Airvana’s femtocell further improves an operator’s business case by integrating an Ethernet router and a VoIP analog telephone adaptor.
Amit Jain, vice president of sales and marketing at Airvana, said, “Airvana has consistently been a leader in the femtocell industry, with the first commercially-available 3G CDMA femtocell, the first IMS-based femtocell, and the first open standards-based femtocell management system. We’re honored that the Femto Forum has recognized our contribution to the femtocell market by nominating Airvana for this prestigious award.”
The awards were open to the whole industry and are judged independently of the Femto Forum by a panel of distinguished analysts, journalists and industry experts, chaired by Dean Bubley, Founder and Director at Disruptive Analysis. The awards attracted entries from vendors and operators from across the world and the full spectrum of the mobile value chain.
“These awards, like the whole femtocell industry, have transformed out of all recognition since their inception. The overwhelming consensus in the mobile industry is that femtocells represent a critical part of the evolution of mobile networks. This is reflected in the growing number of deployments by almost all the major operator groups as well as the smaller regional players,” said Simon Saunders, The Femto Forum’s chairman. “These awards recognize and reward this remarkable transformation of the mobile industry.”
